Introduction

ESGA is the only Governors’ Association supporting all Governors in Essex, it has been doing this since 1994. All GBs are automatically members of the Association, the membership fee is £15 per year, which includes a payment of £9 for membership of NGA (National Governors Association)

The benefits are :-

• A Newsletter at the beginning of each term, containing articles written by Governors for Governors.
• A web-site (www.esga.org.uk) giving contact details for the Executive, together with documents which have been written for governors in Essex.
• Communication meetings, organised by Governor Services, but with the first half-hour is discussion time led by a member of ESGA executive.
• A Mentoring scheme for Chairmen of GBs, in future this service is also available to Chairmen of sub-Committees.
• Access, through NGA, for information on the national perspective of governance.
• As an Association, we have an agreement with Essex Local Authority on how we work together. This Memorandum of Understanding is signed each year by the Cabinet Member for Education in Essex and the Chairman of ESGA.
• We work closely with Governor Services on all aspects of governance and subsidise the Annual Governors Conference.
• We represent Governors on all consultative groups at County level e.g.
• School Forum, Strategic CYPSP, School Partnership Board, BSF, ASBO, SEN, Admission Forum, Equality in Governance, Extended Schools, Black Minority Ethnic Group, Transition for SEN (post 16), Planning for the Annual Conference
• All of this is based on our seeking to present Governors’ views at LA and national level and ensuring equal opportunities for all within education in Essex.The well-being and education of the children in Essex .
